We appreciate the opportunity to provide you with quality orthodontic care, and warmly welcome you to our office, The following information will answer many of your questions.
Dr. Lewis and Staff
Consultation
The initial appointment is an examination and consultation by Dr. Lewis. He will determine your orthodontic needs, advise you of any problems and the necessary corrective treatment. This is also an opportunity for you to address your concerns and ask questions. A financial coordinator will also discuss fees and payment plans. At the conclusion of this visit you will know the course of action that Dr. Lewis is recommending, how long this treatment will take and the cost.
Diagnostic Records
If treatment is indicated, taking diagnostic records will be necessary to record the dental and skeletal starting positions. Photographs inside and out of the mouth will be taken, along with some very specific radiographs and study casts of the teeth. After the records have been taken, separators are usually placed between the back teeth. The separators will create space for the braces to be fit on the next appointment. Some patient’s treatment may require a removable appliance prior to braces. These patients may not require separators at this time. The records appointment will take about thirty minutes and the initial orthodontic payment that was discussed in the consultation will be due.
Active Treatment
The next appointment after records, will begin orthodontic treatment. The orthodontic patient’s teeth should be cleaned and all cavities filled before treatment can begin. We strongly recommend a fluoride treatment to help prevent decay. This initial banding appointment will last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1- 1/2 hours depending on the type of treatment indicated.
Scheduling Appointments
After the initial banding appointment, most of the adjustment appointments will be scheduled every four to six weeks and will be approximately 15 to 30 minutes long. Appointments are made to avoid conflict with the patient’s schedule as much as possible. However not all appointments can be made after school or work. Some visits need to be scheduled earlier in the day when Dr. Lewis can devote the special time needed.
