Avoid Eating

Hard Foods
May cause damage by bending wires, loosening the cement under bands and breaking the brackets. Any of these can potentially play a part in delaying the patients treatment time.
Sticky Foods
Can cause damage to the braces. Again sticky foods break wires and brackets. It's best to just avoid anything sticky, chewy and hard.
Foods High In Sugar Content
Avoid whenever possible; if you do eat any of them, brush your teeth immediately; if is not convenient to brush, then always rinse your mouth with clear water after eating very sweet foods such as cake or pie.
Don’t Eat
- popcorn, nuts, peanut brittle
- ice (don’t chew or suck on ice)
- corn on the cob
- corn chips, crisp tacos (soft shell taco only)
- taffy, caramel, GUM
- pizza crust (tough crust)
- pull all meat off the bone
Maybe
- carrot sticks (cut into thin slices)
- apples (cut into wedges)
Bad Habits
- chewing fingernails will break brackets
- chewing pencils, pens, toothpicks, or any other objects will do damage to braces.
Emergencies
If you feel you have an emergency type problem, please contact the office, or if after hours, please call Laurie at 770-354-5651. She will help you make an appointment, or depending on the type of emergency, she will make the necessary arrangements to resolve the emergency. Please consider that some things, such as a loose bracket, are not considered true emergencies. Most emergencies can also be resolved by just a phone call or a visit to our Emergency Info page to find out what to do.
